Morning departure by 4×4 car from Ouarzazate to Agdez, where the Dra’a valley starts, with a short stop for a tea break. Later, we drive off-roadalong the Dra’a valley and theancient road of caravans as far as Zagora for lunch. In the afternoon the route continues to the village of M’hamidwhich marks the end of the paved road and thebeginning of the Sahara desert. Here a two-hour camel ride leads to the dunes of Erg Lihoudi for an unforgettable sunset and to spend the beauty of the night in a nomad tent close to Erg Lihoudi.
If you wake up early enough, you can watch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the colour of the dunes and the play of shadows are an awesome sight. After breakfast, the return from Erg Lihoudi dunes to M’hamid is oncamel back and, the trip by the 4×4 begins by driving north to Tamegroute for a visit to the Koranic library, the underground kasbah and the potteries. From here, the road leads north again to thekasbah of Tamnougalte for lunch. We arrive back inOuarzazate, at the end of the day, on the other side of theAnti-Atlas and the mountain pass of Tizi-n-Tinfifite(1660m).
