Morning departure by the 4×4 car from Ouarzazate toAgdez, where the Dra’a starts, for a short tea break, followed by some off-road drivingalong the ancient caravan route, arriving in Zagora in time for lunch. In the afternoon, M’hamid, where the road stops and gives way to the Sahara, is waiting. At a campsite at the Erg Lihoudi dunes, there is time for a walk to enjoy the sunset and to spend the beauty of the night in a nomad tent close to thedunes of Erg Lihoudi.
We trek by camels for three days and three nights to discover the most beautiful desert of Morocco and its vast dunes with varying features of the desert; ‘erg’, ‘reg’, ‘hammada’, oases. We arrive in the afternoon of the fourth day at the famous Erg Chagaga dunes, where you can climb Erg Laabidlia to watch the sunset from the top. We have dinner and spend the night in nomad tents among the dunes.
– Walking time is approximately 6 hours a day (3 hours in the morning, and the same again in the afternoon), although it is also possible to ride the camels. Other camels are there to carry the equipment. Meals and tents are prepared by our guides and camel drivers.
After breakfast, the road takes us through another 100 km of off-road driving in the sahara desert with varying scenery; lake Iriqui, the mountains and fossils. Lunch will be in Foum Zguid. From here, the drive back toOuarzazate is along paved roads via Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets and rugs, and we arrive toOuarzazate in the course of the afternoon.
